Symptoms of cataract and cataract removal surgery

Cataract is the clouding of the eye lens, which prevents the passage of light and blocks the vision. Though, cataract is related to old age, it can also happen due to injury, disease or inflammation of the eye.  Cataract can lead to blindness that is why the surgery must be done to prevent the further deterioration in the lens of the eye. Surgery is the only mean to treat cataract. The common symptoms of the cataract are:  cloudy vision, interference with daily activities like reading or watching TV, sensitive to light, especially to headlight, sunlight, halo or haze around lights. The increase in cataract condition can also decrease the ability to distinguish between colors. The double or multiple visions also starts in the initial stages of the cataract. This problem comes to an end with the growth of cataract. The patient suffering from cataract also may change frequently, the number of spectacles or eye glasses. Some persons with cataract also may get improved near vision with onset of cataract but this is temporarily and vision gets worse with growth in cataract.

Cataract surgery is done to remove the cloudy lens and put clear artificial lens in its place. The advanced cataract surgery is called phacoemulsification, or phaco. In this surgery, the cloudy lens is disintegrated into small pieces with the help of an ultrasonic probe. After gently washing out the debris, the new artificial lens is put in its place.  The incision of only 2.6millimeter is required in this surgery. This incision is self healing. The stitches are not required in this surgery.

Before the surgery, the local anesthesia is given. This reduces the sensation of pain and also prevents Cataract surgery in Delhi the movements of the eye during surgery. Eye drops as anesthesia are placed on the eye. This prevents the pain sensation but does not prevent the movements of the eye. But under both anesthesia, the person is awake and in full awareness during operation.

The artificial lens, which are inserted into the place of cataract lens are of two types. The folded lens and non- folded lens .The non folded one are made with hard plastic and large incision has to be made to insert them. Folded one are made from soft acrylic plastic. The incision for inserting them into eye has to be very small. They do not require any stitches and healing time with them is only 4-5 days. The chance of any infection is also to zero.

Again the folded lens can be monofocal or multifocal. The monofocal lenses give enhanced vision but for near vision the patient has to wear glasses. This monofocal provides improved vision only for one distance. It cannot change like the original lens. Only the use of multifocal gives Lasik laser in Delhi independence from glasses.  The multifocal lens has improved vision for at both distance and near points.  More than 80 % patients will never need any glasses for any activity. The remaining 20 % also prefer multifocal for both near and distance visions.

Cataract Surgeries Performed In India

Cataract is the condition in which cloudy lens of the eye affects the vision of the person. This cloudy of the eye lens can be due to old age or because of some injuries to the eye. Surgery is the only mean to remove the cataract lens to help a person to get the normal vision. In the cataract surgery, the affected lens is removed and replaced by plastic lens.

In extracapsular surgery method   a medium sized slit is made on the side of the cornea to remove the cloudy lens of the eye. After this removal the surgeon vacuums the rest of the lens. This surgery is often done when the degree of the affected lens is more than normal. In phacoemulfication, the small incision is made to vacuum out remove the harder part of the lens after it is liquefied. The surgeon uses anesthesia to do the phacoemulfication. The small opening is made at the side of the cornea. Then, a device is send into the eye to disintegrate the lens into small pieces with ultrasound vibrations .These fragments are then sucked out of the small incision made at the side of the cornea. In intracapsular surgery, the whole lens is removed in one piece. This required making quite a big cut to remove the lens. These days, this type of surgery is used only in case of trauma and dislocation of lens.

The lens which replaces the natural lens of the eye is made of plastic. The selection of a particular lens depends on the size of the patient eye .This lens is called intraocular lens or intraocular implant, IOL. These lenses focus light onto retina to help patient to see correctly. These lenses are permanent and don’t need replacement can last the life of the patient.

The surgeries can be Cataract surgery in Delhi performed in form of outpatient procedure and patients do not have to stay in hospital.  Some persons like to stay awake during the process of surgery. But local anesthesia is always given. Some sedative is also given with numb drops put in the eye under operation.   Both the eye is not given cataract surgery at the same time. If both eyes need surgery, then difference between the two surgeries will be 4 to 8 weeks.

Some mild pain or itching is normal after surgery. Sensitive to light and some discharge from eye is other Lasik laser in Delhi normal conditions after the surgery. Surgeon recommends some pain killers and drops to aid the healing process, prevent infection and pressure inside the eye.  Some strenuous exercises are to be avoided immediately after surgery. The person should also use reading glass immediately after surgery.

But before any surgery, the consultations with eye specialist are very important. The condition of the eye, general health condition of the patient is taken into consideration before deciding the surgery method to remove the cataract.

Types of Surgeries Performed to Remove Cataract

Cataract is the cloudiness of the lens of the eye. This is due to aging process or due to some physical injury to the eye.  During the cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and is replaced by clear lens, which is a manmade lens.

There are three types of surgerical techniques, by which the cataract is removed. In the extracapsular type, which is also most common technique used in the treatment, the surgeon makes a slit at the side of the cornea and removes the cloudy section of the eye lens.   The rest of the lens is vacuumed. This type of procedure is used in case of advanced cataract.

In Phacoemulsification ,small incision is made in the side of the cornea and then an ultraviolent vibration are send to the eye to break the cloudy lens into small parts. Then these small parts are sucked out by making a small incision in the eye. In the older type of cataract surgery, the lens is taken out in one piece. Though, this surgery is rarely used today, but may be required in cases of trauma or dislocation of lens.

The lens which is put in the place of old cloudy lens is called intraocular lens. This lens comes with an optical power selected by the surgeon to give normal vision. This lens does not require any special care. The function of this lens is to focus light onto the retina and improve the vision. Cataract surgery does not require a patient to stay in the hospital and can be done in one hour.  Patient is under some kind of sedative and numb drops are given to the eyes before the start of the surgery. If both eye need cataract surgery, the only one eye is treat at the time and next eye is treated after 4 – 8 weeks. The result of one eye will determine the next surgery in other eye.

The use of laser is bit expenses Cataract surgery in Delhi compare to other methods of the cataract surgery. The laser use improves accuracy but has no major impact on the result of the cataract surgery. It also does not reduce the recovery time.

Cataract surgery is considered very safe and the rate of success is more than 98 %. After the surgery, there may be some irritation in the eye and doctor may prescribe some medicine as pain reliever.  Some sensitivity to light Lasik laser in Delhi  and tearing in the eye may also occur, but all these are short term issues, which will go after few days. Doctors also recommend wearing dark glasses for few days. After the surgery, patient may need new prescription of eye glass. The use of reading glass after cataract surgery is needed. The consultation with eye surgeon must decide the type of treatment and other precaution during and after the cataract surgery.

Cataract its Causes and Cataract Surgeries

Cataract is clouding of the lens of the eye due to protein build up. This clouding of the lens prevents the light from entering the lens and thus lens are not able to focus the image on retina, which takes image to brain for processing. Cataract may be due to old age, it can be from the birth due to some injuries or infection before birth of a child. The exposure to certain drugs such as corticosteroids or diuretics, ultraviolent rays of sun, radiation or advance stage of diabetes can also cause cataract. Injury to eye, consumption of alcohol, heavy smoking, long term use of steroids, air pollution can also lead to cataract .Any disease in the eye such as glaucoma, retinitis, retinal detachment, pigmentosa or long term uveitis can also progress to cataract. The potential risk to cataract is there for a person with family history of cataract.

Surgery is the only way to get rid of the cataract .There is two kinds of surgeries and use of any surgery will depend on the kind of cataract one has. Though many people can work well with contact lens and glasses. But in serious cases, when the vision is deteriorating and vision loss is possible for ever, then surgery is suggested. In adults, the degree of vision affected by the cataract determines the surgery need and in children the surgery need depends on the degree of interference with normal vision development.

In small incision surgery, sound waves are used to break up the lens into smaller pieces .Laser is also used to break the lens .This is the most common way of removing cataract . In the second called extracapsular cataract extraction surgery, the lens and its front portion, is opened and then removed in one piece. Second surgery is given to person who have cataract in both eyes. The surgery is not done on both eyes. Cataract surgery in Delhi. The first eye is given time to heal and then depending on the improvement in one eye; the surgery on another eye is performed. Anyone with glaucoma and cataract diseases, the surgery can be given at the same time for both the conditions.

After the surgery, the clouding of posterior lens capsule may occur within 5 years. But it is not considered as a serious problem and it treated with a laser surgery. Since the possibility of vision loss is always present with the cataract, the services of an eye specialist should be taken without loss of time.  For people with other eye conditions such as farsighted, nearsighted or astigmatism, LASIK surgery is given to correct the vision. Lasik laser in Delhi. The main function of the LASIK surgery is to reshape the cornea, so that the light is properly focused on the retina. The need for contact and glasses also comes down after LASIK.

Symptoms of Cataract and Its Treatment and Preventions

The clouding of the clear crystalline lens of the eye is known as cataract. When this happens the light cannot pass through the lens and focus on retina. Cataracts may have many symptoms. Most commonly, a decline in the sharpness of vision is observed. Sensitive to bright light is another symptom. A form of cataract known as nuclear sclerotic cataract can cause a decline in the sharpness of colors, causing them to appear more muted than before.

Sometimes, cataracts can cause double vision in the eye with the cataract. This happens, when the clouded portion of the lens splits the light into two images. In some elders the ability to see clearly at close up may return with the progression of the cataract. This happens when there is change in the refractive power of the lens due to cataract. But this increased in close vision comes with decreased sharpness, glare and ability to see clear colors.  In the early stages of cataracts, impact of the vision may be little One of the first signs of increase in cataract is the need to frequently change the glasses. In later stages glare or double vision begins to occur. The removal of cataract is the only solution to the problem.

Surgical Treatment

Surgical treatment depends on the health of the eye and assessment of the curvature of the cornea
The doctor may also dilate the eye to see the lens and back part of the eye .peripheral vision and eye pressure measurement is also done before the treatment begins .Surgery involves incision of 3mm at the edge of the cornea. After this, the lens is broken into small pieces and removed with the ultrasound process called phacoemulsification. Then a silicone or plastic lens is put in the place of old lens. This lens stays permanently and works normally focusing light on the retina. The wounds left after this type of surgery are so small that they do not require any suture to close them.

The surgery is done in 20 minutes or so and patient may be prescribed glasses after examination at the end of second or third week. With advanced techniques and facilities, the cataract treatment has become very safe. The blade less surgery to correct eye vision and remove the need of wearing eye glasses for ever is performed at .all leading hospitals now. Blade Free Lasik in Delhi can be performed under the guidance of best doctors supported by advanced facilities.

Exposure to harmful UV can increase the chances of getting cataract. Smoking is other factor which increases the risk of getting cataract. People with exposure to sunlight should protect the eyes with sunglasses. Any defect in vision or decrease in ability to see the colors sharply,

Cataract surgery in Delhi should be treated as serious issue and a doctor must be consulted.

What Are Major Differences between LASIK and Cataract Surgery?

Lasik Laser in Delhi

Thousands of individuals across the world are confused about the different between the Lasik laser and cataract surgery as both are used to help people to restore vision. The difference between the Lasik laser and cataract surgery is discussed in this blog.

Lasik Laser surgical procedures are used for the purpose of vision correction by reshaping the cornea of the len by using high density laser beams.

The cataract surgery is used for treatment of cataract by effectively removing the natural lens that has developed opacification. Cataract treatment is only done by removing the natural lens using different types of cataract surgery and replacing them with a clear plastic len which is known as intraocular lens.

For treatment of cataract and restoring normal vision, the use of Lasik laser is not beneficial and recommended by ophthalmologists. As if the ophthalmologists have effectively eliminated the glasses by using the Lasik laser, still the vision of the individuals would be blurry due to existence of cataract. Mainly the laser Lasik or laser vision correction is used for improving the distant vision of the patients. Counted as one of the most successful refractive surgical procedures, the Lasik laser surgery can also be used to treat hyperopia, and astigmatism.

Based on whether laser or microkeratome is used for creation of flap in the laser Lasik surgical procedures, it can be effectively classified into blade-free or blade Lasik laser vision correction surgery. Different types of popular cataract surgery used for removal of cataract and replacing with clear implants are Phacoemulsification and extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE).

Different modification of extracapsular cataract extraction such as Manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS) and Intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE) can also be used for treatment of cataract through systematic removal of natural len infected with cataract.  Other surgical procedures known as Cryoextraction that makes use of liquid nitrogen for freezing the lens and then removed by using cryoextractor can be used for the purpose of treating the cataract.

Cataract Surgery in Delhi

After effective removal of cataract through different Cataract Surgery in Delhi, ophthalmologists then implants Intraocular lens implantation by using very small incision. After the artificial len is implanted, the Visco-elastic removal is done by the ophthalmologists during the cataract surgrical procedures. If required, the wound sealing or hydration of the eye can be done, to ensure proper restoration of vision after the cataract surgical procedures.

Lasik Laser in Delhi

Blade free Lasik Laser in Delhi requires two beam of laser for vision correction at high tech laser center under the supervision of Lasik surgeons.  First, the beam of laser is required for making the flap in the cornea and the second set of laser is used for the purpose of effectively reshaping the cornea for effective vision correction.

Whereas, the cataract surgical procedures are systematically performed at operation theatre by using ultrasonic handpiece equipped with a tiny probe made of steel, for removing the len and replacing with clear and transparent implant.
